On the sun drenched beaches and tidal flats of the lower world you will find the Cephlians basking in the sun. They are at home on land as well as in the water. They build cities that trail off of beaches and deep beneath the breaking waves. Below their soft and tentacled head and just under their chin is a frill of gills that seal when the Cephlian leaves the water.

Cephlians come in a range of colors from red to blue with some even in a cool green color. Color seems to be dependent on the parent’s color rather than any link to environment. Cephlians develop quickly and do not have a long life span, only averaging 65 years. A Cephlian is considered to be adult at the age of twelve, and is able to bear its first clutch of children. They do not have rigid bones, other than their skull, the rest of their bones are actually extremely firm, but flexible, cartilage.

Cephlians are not big on armor, but are not against protecting themselves. They tend to wear simple cloth when walking outside of the water or sharkskin (equivalent to Leather). They are allies with the Naga, but it is a tense alliance with issues being raised every time the Cephlians build new cities.

Squeeze: Cephilains can squeeze through any opening that is at least the size of their head (8 inch diameter) and when squeezing they can move their speed as long as they are not wearing medium or heavy armor.

Hydrated Vitality: Members of this race gain fast healing 2 for 1 round anytime they submerge completely within a body of natural salt water, fresh water, or brackish water. Stagnant, poisoned, or trapped water (such as water within an artificial pit or a bag of holding) does not activate this ability. Members of this race can heal up to 4 hit points per level per day with this ability, after which it ceases to function.

Water Child: Members of this race gain a +4 racial bonus on Swim checks, can always take 10 while swimming.

Amphibious: Members of this race are amphibious and can breathe both air and water.
